Electric Cars/Heat Pumps - BBC 1
A two-part factual series for BBC 1, examining the practical realities of the UK’s transition to Net Zero, translating complex government policy and engineering challenges into clear, accessible storytelling for a general audience.
I was director across the series, finding ways to turn complex science and policy into relatable and easy to understand stories. I was in charge of narrative clarity, pace and visual storytelling and filmed the material myself on broadcast quality cameras and lenses.
The challenge
Translating complex policy and engineering for a variety of audiences
Keeping balance and fairness in a politically charged topic
Managing contributors across community, big business and government
I focussed all the films on the real world, human impact of often dry, policy white papers and announcements. Using artful and visually ambitious sequences, I incorporated humour, jeopardy and misdirection to highlight the challenges in an engaging manner.
