Two series about China’s transition from a manufacturing economy to one driven by frontier science and entrepreneurial innovation. I translated hard to visualise and difficult to understand concepts into visually striking, authentic and accessible stories about the people pushing the boundaries of what we know.

I oversaw both projects from development to final delivery, including scripting, filming, edit and post production, finding and developing the human stories to make the science tangible.
The challenge
Turning complex science — from particle physics to CRISPR — into clear, compelling narratives
Explaining businesses and technology to broad audiences, with authenticity
Managing cross cultural relationships with scientists and entrepreneurs
Delivering visually exciting content in complex international environments
Combining research and business innovation with human stories of the founders and academics, I devised cinematic and action sequences to support story visually, and made characters of the cities, landscapes and unique Chinese history that nurtured the advances.
